LIVE: DAIS RECORDS CELEBRATE THEIR 15TH BIRTHDAY

Dais Records had their 15th anniversary this weekend in LA and of course, the lineup was on point.

Independent record label Dais Records had their 15th anniversary at both Zebulon and Belasco in Los Angeles this past weekend- they did not skimp on the line up. Night one at Zebulon is where we found ourselves with performances from bands, Body Of Light, Cold Showers, VR SEX and Tempers.

True to form, LA traffic was thriving. Luckily we made it in time to catch the last 2 bands - check out our recap + pics below

VR SEX

This being the second time I was seeing VR SEX, I wanted to make sure I was at the front. The Energy was instant. As soon as the band walks onto the stage you feel it. Front man Noel Skum (Drab Majesties Andrew Clinco) staggers his way to the mic like an alien learning to get used to his new body. The band don’t break their cold demeanors throughout the set which adds to the chaotic energy of Mr Skum. Everyone at the front follows his lead. I lose my wallet, somebody finds my wallet, Nobody cares, we can’t stop watching and “dancing.”

The energy remains high even after the set is over. The uniformed band takes it in turns to abandon their instruments and walk off the stage without a word. The crowd sticks around itching for another song until the DJ (AURAGRAPH) begins to play again, signaling the set is over. The people that ventured to the show not knowing what to expect, now have a new favorite band.

As a personal fan, I highly recommend taking a deep dive into their extensive catalog of distorted and psychotic, hit after hit. Definitely if anything, check out their newest album ‘Rough Dimension’ released this past year with Dais Records. Ambient but hard hitting, it’s the fever dream you want.

TEMPERS

Next up, headliners Tempers walk onto a dark stage. Suddenly they are lit up by pulsating lights and the crowd is hushed with anticipation. Singer Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper give off a moody, sultry energy that agrees perfectly with the poetic lyrics and eerie synths. Everyone is fixated on the stage. Jasmine’s voice echoes around the room as she dances with the beat of the strobes, while Eddie Cooper gives the band a post punk feel with the drone of his guitar and deep vocals which compliment the dancier parts of the songs, keeping its gothic undertone.

Birthed in New York, this goth wave/ synth pop duo have been growing in  popularity, not just in the US but also overseas. In 2019 Tempers joined Dais Records and released their album ‘Private Life.’ Chilling and beautiful, Jasmine's voice is hard to forget, and you won’t want to. Listening to their latest Album, you can see why their song “Capital Pains” is so popular. Easy to dance to, easy to cry to, it’s the perfect song for when you're being haunted by your own emotions. Reminiscent of 80s synth pop with the subtlety of shoegaze, it really is a time warp of a song while still remaining modern and its own sound.

You can listen to Tempers latest song, a rework of Drew McDowalls (Coil and Psychic TV) ‘Agalma VI’ on your favorite streaming platforms and Catch them along with VR SEX at Grauzone festival in the Netherlands in February.
