PREMIERE: NIIS Reclaim Power On New Single 'FUCK YOU BOY'

The LA-based punks aren’t fucking around on their new track

Los Angeles, CA-based NIIS have just shared a new single + accompanying music video for their track ‘Fuck You Boy’ - we’re obviously fucking OBSESSED. The song has been a staple of the bands live set since their early days pre-pandemic and now, it isn’t uncommon to hear rowdy fans screaming the lyrics as lead-vocalist Mimi SanDoe flips off every man in the crowd.

Driven by a reclamation of power from the ashes of a previous relationship, ‘Fuck You Boy’ nails the bands signature of serious subjects brought front and center by walls of chaotic, hard-hitting sound - a duality attempted by many but mastered by few, Niis are the few.

We spoke with NIIS front-woman Mimi SanDoe about the inspiration for the track, the ‘lighthearted’ Gilbert Trejo-directed music video, and which boys can (specifically) FUCK OFF

What was the initial inspiration when writing ‘Fuck You Boy’?

The initial inspiration was a breakup with my ex. When we had broken up it felt like I had lost all my power. But writing this song helped heal me. I feel powerful whenever we play it, and it’s really an ode to anyone who has had to take back their power from an ex or just some asshole. I hope people feel powerful when they hear it. And powerful if they scream it!

How was the creative process when shooting the Gilbert Trejo-directed flick?

The creative process was so easy and clear. We just met and he had a great idea we all loved. Gilbert is a genius, so we just followed his direction and he came up with this amazing video. Also shout-out to Starcrawler for showing up and helping make it possible.

What boys do you want to say FUCK YOU to?

There is an extremely long list. But since this song is directed at any man who has made anyone feel powerless or small - all those men who have belittled us are small men, boys - so FUCK YOU to allllll those boys.

What’s next for NIIS?

We’ve got a lot of fun stuff planned in the new year! We have an EP being pressed right now, and a series of singles from the EP coming out over the next few months and we’re currently writing our first full length!

As for shows, our next one in the books is with BE IN A BAND OR DIE at Resident with Suzie True 2/23 and our friend Reggie Watts and Goon (Lodge Room) 2/25!
