Back in the long-lost era of one month ago, I caught local favorites Kevin opening for Shopping and Automatic at 1720, - you can check out the shots of that here. A group of fans camped at the front of the stage revealed to me before their set that Kevin is their favorite band, and they trekked all the way from Orange County for the gig. How fortuitous that their last show (and mine) before the entire live music industry shuttered indefinitely mere hours later was such a good, and appropriate, one.

It’s only fitting that Kevin’s brand of Screamers vs. La Bouche weirdness would end up sound-tracking the apocalypse. On their latest single “Sun Moon Urgent Care,” the Los Angeles quartet’s sinister vibes and dystopic tones take a proggier direction as their penchant for unease builds towards an inescapable sensation of impending multiversal cosmic doom. At live shows, it was usually the moment when that pre-show joint hits a second peak, and on record, it’s the fullest realization of Kevin yet.
