PREMIERE: Dove Armitage gets celestial and surreal on new track ‘They Ate Timothy’

by JAMES DURAN

We spoke with Quincy Larsen about Dove Armitage - her latest character-driven solo project that blends surreal visuals with dreamy electronic art-rock

Dove’s latest track ‘They Ate Timothy’ tells the epic tale of an alien sent to earth where he suffers a truly tragic fate…

Who is Timothy and why did they eat him?

Timothy is an alien that went through a long and difficult selection process to be sent to Earth disguised as a bird. However his planet failed to do the proper research on Earth’s birds, and turned him into what they thought was a majestic ruler of the skies...a chicken.

Dove Armitage - an eerily beautiful name for a new project. We must know more, tell us all about it

Thank you! I wanted everything about the project, down to her name, to embody the juxtaposition of delicate melody and raw synthesized power. Kinda like a bouquet of flowers wrapped up in chains and glass covered in blood...by the sea...in space.

Where does Dove draw inspiration from?

I get a lot of inspiration from 80’s post punk and new wave, slammed together with 90’s Techno and Drum and Bass, and blended up with dream pop and shoegaze. Definitely also inspired by drag, performance art, cyber punk anime, etc.

The pairing of music and visuals create a concurrent theme that often borders the macabre -  how's the process of combining two separate mediums?

I get such a thrill out of it. I’ve always loved music meeting performance and visual art as a multifaceted body of work. For this particular project,  I’ve been trying to create this surreal and dissonant universe in which Dove rules with an iron fist...totally kidding Dove is a socialist.

If you had to describe Dove Armitage to an alien from another universe, what would you say?

I would say, “fjfog5?(8582iebfot47&:goejthff85037&(@/!(tishfkanf... “meaning; Dove is your friend.
