PREMIERE: Little Fighter Shares Passionate Debut EP 'Fall Again'

Today, Los Angeles, CA based musician and songwriter G Leonardo has shared Fall Again, the debut EP for her solo-project Little Fighter. Emotionally gripping and overflowing with passionate tales of pain, beauty, life and coming of age, the EP and project as a whole is a scrapbook of personal moments shared not only lyrically but sonically as Leonardo conveys mood throughout every guitar note and drum beat.

We spoke with Leonardo about Little Fighter, how the record differs from her other musical works, and the future of the promising project:

Introduce the world to Little Fighter for us.

When you walk to your car after work and something tells you to look up - do you listen?

little fighter is the thoughtful pause before speaking, the feeling of a tight chest when you know that something will hurt you. It is a quiet look at your hopeful face in the darkness, waiting for something to happen, and realizing that you are the best thing that has happened in a very long time.

What themes are present on Fall Again - How was the creative process when writing and recording the EP?

All of these songs have lived for a very long time in my back pocket, written between 2015-2018 when I was trying to figure my shit out. I put together a collection of them for fun when I was feeling Out of Control TM and wanting to make a big change in my life, so why not release an album of incredibly personal music instead? But in early 2018 I chose to invest in myself and in these songs when I reached out to my friend Alex Rogers (Youngest Sibling, Family Hahas, Tambourines) about recording and bringing these to life.

At this point we've worked so much across all of my music projects that we are at a point where our partnership is fluid - we knew when to play and when to buckle down and chase after something. Looking back at this time I am very proud of the chances I've taken on myself and hope that you see this bravery in the world that we've created.

Little Fighter is your solo-project, how does it differ from your music with Suzie True and Punk Crush?

I think of little fighter as a collection of experiences, a scrapbook of extremely embarrassing and devastating moments that have broken me in some way or another. The way that I write for little fighter is very intuitive and emotional, playing a lot with how different sounds and tones feel in the body and working off of how the body reacts when certain phrases or words are said. If a song lingers and evokes a strong reaction, I keep an eye on it.

It's similar to how I write lyrically and musically for PUNK CRUSH, but PC is a collaborative writing experience with my bandmates where we all have material we contribute whereas little fighter is my little corner of the world. For Suzie True I write guitar parts that play off of Lexi's words and am very intentional about the sounds and effects that I choose so that the guitar has just as much of an impact as the lyrics do.

What's in store for the future?

I am working on some pretty untraditional merch items to build the world! Because bringing little fighter to life is also very special to me, there is a live band in the works ;)

Self-releasing was an incredibly freeing and stressful experience that has given me courage to continue releasing music - so there may be a few new tracks in the works for next year, and possibly even a collection of songs. Who knows? All I can say is that the little fighter world will never stop growing as long as I'm around.
