PREMIERE: Violet Lewis Shares Heartfelt EP 'Loose Lips'

Violet Lewis by Natalie Somekh

Los Angeles, CA based singer + songwriter Violet Lewis has just shared Loose Lips, a collection of four heartfelt tracks that have captivated us with their lightness and attention to emotion. Reminiscent of iconic folk and acoustic records of the early 2000’s Violet Lewis is able to combine floating guitar melodies with a lyrical rawness that’s not only aware but addicting to listen to. Her second EP date, Loose Lips is a strong entry into an already promising catalog, an entry we hope paves the way for more music.

Over email, Lewis spoke to us about the creative process behind the EP + the personal nature of the tracks, read and listen below

“When I began writing and recording the EP, I had imagined I would keep the whole project pretty acoustic. During the process of recording, however, I started getting back in touch with my rock & roll roots, and started adding elements of rock into my predominantly soft, acoustic ballads.

“Don’t Say Goodbye” is definitely the most electric song on the EP, whereas “George Orwell” is quiet and intimate like a secret being whispered in your ear. While the songs vary based on the mood I’m trying to create, they share similarities through the rawness and honesty of my oftentimes autobiographical lyrics, which is how I came up with the name “Loose Lips.” People always say “my lips are sealed” but this is the opposite of that. My lyrics are my experiences and my anxieties and my secrets shared without hesitation.”
