Reckling’s “In My Hair” Video Is Stuck In Our Heads

Our favorite punk-bird enthusiast Kelsey Reckling flies over the cuckoo’s nest in the new, Amber Navarro-directed music video for her latest single.

Captured by a menacing medical team consisting of FIDLAR’s Brandon Schwartzel and Slaughterhouse’s Taylor Ramirez, Reckling is taken into the psych ward for a lobotomy, transforming her from a paranoid freakazoid into a smiling, compliant member of society. Her microbial bandmates rock on in the stark white, liminal space that is her mind, much to the dismay and confusion of her doctor. Complete with hallucinations of singing skulls and giant lollipops, it’s all macabre whimsy and delightful DIY hijinks.

With a sound that makes it easy to imagine if a Whip-Smart era Liz Phair was a snarling punk in 1970s Los Angeles, “In My Hair” is an anthem for every obsessive overthinker and indecisive decision-maker. An earworm of an offering from Reckling’s upcoming EP Human Nature, out August 12th, we’re already obsessed and hungry for more.

Catch Reckling live and in the flesh with friends Death Lens and Jagged Baptist Club at the Echo on August 25th
