PREMIERE: GIRLFIEND Shares Sick New Single 'DIZZY'

LA-based GIRLFIEND is back with an emotionally-nostalgic single ‘Dizzy’ and we are truly addicted.

In 2019 we premiered Nature, Love, and Anger, the debut LP from Los Angeles based alternative rock/emo band GIRLFIEND and now, a whole pandemic and 3 years later, we finally have a follow-up - we’re fucking stoked.

‘Dizzy’ is the lead single off Girlfiends untitled, upcoming EP and it’s a whirlwind of emotional nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the early 2000’s listening to alt-rock and emo on their iPods (us). We spoke with Girlfiend lead Comet about the time leading up to this new release, inspiration for the track, and whats next for one of our favorite bands in the LA scene:

Its been a while since we’ve heard from Girlfiend! What have you and the band been up to since the pre-Covid, 2019 release of Nature, Love, and Anger

We released our first EP Dark Star right at the beginning of COVID and once things reopened we started playing shows again! During lockdown we were all just writing a bunch and waiting for the world to end.

What was the inspiration for your new single ‘Dizzy’? Do you feel like Girlfiend is going in a new direction with this single and the upcoming record?

Dizzy is about a whirlwind romance that you lose yourself in. It’s about the idea of giving your whole life up for someone and if that’s ever worth it.

It’s absolutely a different direction for us. Our next EP is a much more of a dark shoegaze-y record. Though it still features plenty of harder upbeat moments.

What’s coming up next for Girlfiend?

Lots! Dizzy is the lead single of our upcoming EP! It is almost done and will likely release sometime in late fall. It has been about 3 years in the making. We are trying to plan a small west coast tour but so far we are still locking everything in (tour logistics mayhem >.<)

GIRLFIEND is Angelica, Comet and Danielle - keep an eye out for their next EP coming out in late fall.
